Carpe Diem: for Sarah
By Britt Irick
They don't understand.
But it's okay.
You're smarter than them.
But, apparently,
That doesn't matter.
Because,
Apparently,
They know better than you.
If they knew better,
Then they would know.
Shoes don't matter.
But, apparently,
They do.
Because,
Apparently,
They can make you cry.
They can think they know better.
They can think they're smarter.
They can think shoes matter.
But they don't.
So tomorrow,
Pin your shoes to the door,
Feel the floor with your feet.
Carpe diem.
"I made an apple pie," Sarah happily said
But then she wanted a pear one instead
But pears aren't in season, so thus I must reason
She'll imagine the pears in her head.
I’m not afraid that my car and other things
Are about to be destroyed.
A heart, a heart is about to be deployed!
All our friendships made and lost remain
In the foreground of spiritual symmetry
Splitting asunder what would be commodity,
Enveloping the breathless body
Because we believe
Because we believe
Within the content of a rosary
Is a voice ever speaking and an ear ever hearing.
Though our words often become earrings cheaply worn..
There are diamonds 9 months being born.
The pain of it all forgotten
When the sun’s billion years exploding
And God’s hands are crippled from over use
There will still be a bridge crossing between the endless mees and youus.
Your friend,
Mike
